A business trip is not the same thing as permission to work
Meetings, conferences and employment can all appear on a business itinerary. The immigration treatment depends on the actual activity.
Start with what you will actually do
The phrase business trip describes a commercial purpose, not an immigration classification. A traveler going to discuss a contract and a traveler going to perform services may both describe the journey in the same words. That does not mean they can rely on the same permission.
The State Department identifies activities such as consulting with business associates, attending professional conferences and negotiating contracts among examples of B-1 business visits. Its visitor guidance also makes clear that employment is generally outside the visitor categories. There are narrow, specialized rules in some situations, so a broad slogan about business travel is not an adequate assessment.
The invitation is evidence, not authorization
An invitation from a U.S. company can explain who expects you and why. It does not itself decide whether your planned activities fit a visitor classification. A job title, a short visit or payment from abroad should not be used as a stand-alone rule for deciding what is allowed.
Describe the substance of the trip in ordinary language: the meetings, the work product, the people receiving services and the arrangements with the business. That account is more useful for a qualified adviser than trying to select the most convenient label first. It also helps identify when a visit has expanded beyond its original purpose.
Keep the category and the itinerary aligned
The B-1 business visitor overview is a useful reference for understanding the category name. For a decision about a particular assignment, return to official guidance and, when the boundaries are uncertain, an immigration professional who can assess the facts.
This is especially important if a company proposes changing your activities after arrival. Do not assume that an existing visitor visa or an earlier admission covers every subsequent business request. The authorization question should be resolved before the activity begins, not after a payroll or travel booking has already been arranged.
